Itinerary:

Join us for an early-season, character-building shakeout at Bow Hut! This will be a great way to kickstart your season, stretch your legs, and if we're lucky, snag a peak and a few turns along the way. The Wapta can be in great shape this time of year, but coverage can be thin so we'll be taking our time and picking routes carefully to manage the elevated risk. That said, this trip is for optimistic members with reasonable fitness, glacier travel experience, and up-to-date crevasse rescue practice.

Friday 6:30 am: Depart Edmonton

Friday 11:00 am: Arrive at Bow Lake car park. Disperse ropes and other group gear. Discuss access and safety considerations.

Friday 12:00 pm: Depart for the hut. Expect 3-4 hours approach and marginal conditions (i.e. rocks)

Saturday: Check out glacier coverage with options to ski laps on the glacier tongue or ascend a peak.

Sunday 12 pm: Depart hut. Optional morning laps for keeners. Arrive at cars around 2 pm.

Required Items to Bring:

A list of recommended gear will be sent to all participants, including ski or snowboard touring equipment, avalanche safety gear, and glacier travel kit.

Ropes will be provided.

Recommended Items to Bring:

Sleeping bag, food, fitness. We'll chat about a potluck once the group is finalized.

Costs is $80, members only. Payment will be expected in full upon acceptance. Payment will be non-refundable unless a suitable replacement can be found 1 week prior to departure.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Edmonton Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
