We are a space where you agree to challenge yourself to learn more about any topics that you may not have much knowledge about, without relying on the labour of others to teach you, unless it is freely offered. Respect each other’s experiences and feelings by taking responsibility for the effects of your words. On the other side, if you have a strong reaction to something, let the group know. Be open to dialogue. Welcome Multiple Viewpoints and Identities
Speak from your own experience by using “I statements.” Ask questions to understand the sources of disagreements. If someone has an identity or sexuality that you do not understand, respect them and their experience and do not ask overly personal or intimate questions (unless they have first opened up). We are all responsible for this space. Be aware of how others are responding or not responding. Ask for a “time out” or dialogue if needed. If someone is uncomfortable or not wanting to engage, allow them space. Work to Recognize your Privileges
Use this space to recognize and investigate your privileges (for example: race, class, gender, sexual orientation, ability). Honor the different experiences we all bring to this space. Confidentiality
Share the message, not the messenger. We recognize that at times we may be in public spaces, and it will be difficult to respect confidentiality in these spaces. Please keep what you hear and see, as well as who is in the group, to yourself.
