Notes:

Winter in the Mountains (WIM) 2026 provides an introduction to traveling in the mountains on touring skis or splitboard. Its intended audience is wanna-bes or newbies to backcountry touring.  It is presented by volunteers from ACC Edmonton.  WIM 2026 aims to cover topics including introductory avalanche awareness, touring clothing and equipment, and cold weather risk mitigation.  WIM 2026 is not a replacement for Avalanche Skills Training 1 (AST1).  AST1 is not required to attend WIM, but it is highly recommended that participants consider AST1 training either prior to or following the course.
