Itinerary:

Start your season outside with a weekend of rock climbing in the David Thompson corridor. This will be a weekend to "shake off the cobwebs" and enjoy some comradery. the anticipated climbing difficulty is of a more mellow variety (5.5+). If you can lead: great. If you want to top rope, that's also great.

Climbing areas will be selected the night before each climbing day and will be selected from Shakakan, Happy People, Whirlpool Ridge, and Kootenay Plains (or similar).

Clothing

  • T-Shirt - Cotton for warm weather, synthetic for multi-pith or cool weather
  • Climbing Pants - Loose fitting, cotton for warm weather, synthetic for multi-pitch or cold
  • Insulation Layer Top - Pile (fleece), light synthetic fill or wool sweater/jacket
  • Waterproof Layer Top - Waterproof breathable or coated nylon jacket
  • Waterproof Layer Pants - Waterproof breathable or coated nylon pants
  • Sun Hat
  • Toque - Wool or Synthetic
  • Light Gloves - Wool, synthetic or leather
  • Belay Jacket (optional) - Warm down or synthetic jacket for hanging/belaying in the cold

Recommended Items to Bring:

It would be appreciated if you have cordelette, locking carabineers or quickdraws that you bring for use by the group.


Notes:

Each day of climbing will start from the HI Nordegg, Shunda Creek Wilderness Hostel parking lot. Carpooling from the hostel to our objective can be arranged between participants at the event.

Two nights of accommodation will be provided with the trip fee. Food is the responsibility of each trip participant. Breakfast and supper will be at the hostel. Prepare your lunch for out in the wilderness. There is limited food options in the Nordegg area.

Withdrawal from the trip must occur before event registration closes to be eligible for a refund of the trip cost. Registration for the event is not finalized until payment is received.


*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Edmonton Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
