Itinerary:

We are in prime ice climbing season, so let's get after it! This is a day trip to the Cline River Galleries. There are 4 very competent trip leaders coordinating this event so, It is a trip for all ability levels, even those who want to try ice climbing for the first time. Cline offers lots of routes at various levels so there is literally something for everyone!

https://www.mountainproject.com/route/119972623/pure-energy this is the description for the king line in there, but it also give a good sense of the location the trip is at if you are unfamiliar with it

This is an all levels trip run by volunteer club members for:

  • those who have their own gear or are willing to rent

    • the club does have some gear it can lend so please ask before you rent

    • rentals can be done through the yeg ice wall or at Trailhead Climbing in Red Deer

  • are able to top rope belay

  • are looking to get out for some ice climbing

Here is the plan

Friday, Feb  2nd (optional): If you are looking to come up on Friday night, some of us will be staying at the Shunda Creek Hostel and this would be a great choice for accommodations for those who don’t want a long early morning drive on Saturday. We will be leaving the hostel to head to the Pinto Lake Staging Area at 7:15am.

Please note that you are also free to make any other accommodation arrangements you like. Winter camping is easily available if that is your jam! There is also a motel in Nordegg that is not fancy, but has reasonable rates.

Saturday, Feb 3rd: If you are not staying or meeting at the hostel, you can meet us at the Pinto Lake Staging Area off the David Thompson Highway at 8am with your bag packed and ready to walk away from the cars.  The plan is to be making the way up the approach at 8:05 am so we don't get scooped!! We have 4 experienced coordinators that can put up ropes on this trip and so there is no need to lead any of the routes if that is not your skill or comfort level.

We will climb for the day with lots of stoke and safety!

This is the general plan as of now, but may change based on conditions. If you have any questions, reach out on whatsApp or email roffeyc@gmail.com

Once you are registered we will add you to the Whatsapp group to chat and work out details.
