The Hilda Creek area has plenty of backcountry skiing options, including roadside-accessible ones like Parker Ridge and Hilda Ridge. The HI Hilda Creek Wilderness hostel is often hard to book for this reason, but a sweet weekend spot opened up!
Friday, February 2 – travel to hostel (most likely through Nordegg)
Saturday, Feb. 3 – ski ski ski (or board)! We will select routes together that fit the snow conditions and group interests.
Sunday, Feb 4 – ski/board and travel home.
If there is sufficient interest, this trip can be extended to start on Thursday, Feb 1 – there is availability at the hostel still. --> UPDATE – avail is now for Sunday, Feb 4, so we'd return a day later.
Required Items to Bring:
AST1
Not being sick! Many airborne diseases are prevalent this winter, including COVID-19, RSV, and the flu. As the hut is small, we'll be sharing a lot of time together indoors.
Backcountry ski gear (skis, skins) and avalanche safety gear (beacon, probe, shovel) – and the knowledge to use them! (We can do an in-city refresher before the trip).
Recommended Items to Bring:
Food for all meals
First Aid or other emergency equipment

Notes:
Please add yourself to the waitlist, at which time the organizer will contact you.
The whole HI Wilderness Hostel is booked and costs $287.10 (GST included) per night. It has room for six and is cancellable up to 7 days prior. Ideally, we would have six participants to split the accommodation cost at $95.70/person in total. The organizer will request proof of AST1 (if skiing) and an e-Transfer of this amount before confirming registration.
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Edmonton Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
