Itinerary:

Join us for another full-hut takeover at Wheeler Hut! This iconic hut offers access to some of the finest skiing in the area, including Avalanche Crest, Sir Donald area, Illicillewat Glacier, Glacier Crest, the Asulkan Valley, and classic routes such as Forever Young, Seven Steps of Heaven, the Dome Glacier, and many more hidden gems.

What to Expect:

  • You'll be in the company of experienced skiers and boarders who are there for the legendary Selkirk Pow and hut-life revelry.
  • Groups will be small and can change daily, allowing flexibility in exploring the diverse terrain around the hut.
  • Most participants will be comfortable making decisions in Complex (ATES 3) Avalanche Terrain and will be encouraged to form independent groups each day.
  • Experienced Section members will organize full-day trips to Challenging and Complex terrain and can advise on other shorter and/or simpler terrain options.
  • A typical day usually involves ascending 1200-1800 meters, lots of discussion on hazards and route-finding, and skiing in varied terrain (e.g. steep trees, subalpine bowls, and exposed alpine features) based on snow and avalanche conditions.

Application Details:

  • All participants must submit individual applications. Please include the names of others in your party (if applicable).
  • Briefly describe your backcountry experience, training, and familiarity with the area.
  • Please provide the name of an Edmonton Section Trip Coordinator you have skied with recently.

Itinerary:

  • Wednesday, Jan 24: Morning departure (Edmonton) and short evening approach to Wheeler Hut.
  • Thursday, Jan 25 to Saturday, Jan 27: Full ski days.
  • Sunday, Jan 28: Clean up and morning laps for keeners. Drive home mid-day.

Dinner plans and carpool arrangements will be finalized once we have a list of participants.

Required Items to Bring:
  • Please refer to the ACC's official hut details here for more information about the hut and amenities.

Recommended Items to Bring:
